Rye Flood Mitigation Project Study
Rye, NY | City of Rye, NY
The City of Rye retained WSP SELLS to investigate the flood mitigation potential of improvements to an existing detention area along Blind Brook, designated as the Bowman Avenue Dam and Lower Pond which had experienced extreme flooding over the past several years.
WSP SELLS is performing the preliminary investigation and analysis which encompasses data collection, field surveying and mapping, analysis of existing conditions, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, and community outreach services.
WSP SELLS is gathering data from dam safety reports, dam inspection records, topographic mapping, watershed/sub-basin maps, soils maps, watershed analysis computations, dam design plans, hydraulic/hydrologic models to determine existing potential of flood control during various frequency storms and outlet openings. For the hydrologic analysis WSP SELLS will evaluate multiple methodologies and will select a minimum of 2 to use to establish baselines calibrated from historical data and determine the existing stage-discharge curve and the reservoir data.
