2006 ACEC Silver Award in Structural Systems
FOR GREEN STREET BRIDGE OVER BRANCH BROOK
Constructed in 1913, the Green Street Bridge was found to be in a seriously deteriorated condition prompting its immediate closure. Due to the structure’s critical importance to the traveling public and emergency services, the Town needed this roadway available. WSP SELLS coordinated the installation of a temporary bridge, completing this task within 6 weeks. WSP SELLS then provided the design and construction inspection services to complete a permanent bridge replacement. This project was a success due to the cooperative efforts of the many entities involved in order to meet the stringent time frames.
HIGHLIGHTS
This project has brought about tremendous insight to the issues relating to structures with span lengths less than 6.0 m. Many locally owned bridges receive little to no maintenance let alone a structural inspection during their serviceable life, which result in emergency closures.
This project resulted in the Village of Mount Kisco to look towards instituting a bridge assessment and prioritization program.
