FTP Instructions

You can access documents online using FTP (File Transfer Protocol). FTP allows you to upload files from your computer to the FTP server and download files from the FTP server to your computer.

To access the secure FTP site, you will need a username and password. (If you do not have a username and password, please email Karen Anewalt). Within the FTP site, you will see a main directory. From here, you can access sub-directories and files. Using this method, you will be able to download files one at a time.

As an alternative, you can access the FTP server using an FTP program such as WS_FTP or FTP Explorer, which allows you to transfer multiple files at once.

How to download a file from the FTP server to your computer:

• 1. Select Secure FTP.
• 2. Enter the username and password to login.
• 3. Select a sub-directory.
• 4. Click on the file you want to download.
• 5. A "Save As" dialog box will appear and allow you to save the file to a specified location on your computer or at a network location.
• If a "Save As" dialog box does not appear, try clicking on the file name using your "right" mouse button, then choose the "Save Link As" option.                        

How to upload a file from your computer to the FTP server:

• You can upload a file to the FTP server using the Netscape Navigator browser, version 3.0 or higher. (You cannot upload files using Internet Explorer.)
• 1. Using the Netscape browser, open the FTP directory where you want to place your file.
• 2. Pull down Netscape's "File" menu and select "Upload" from the list of options.
• If the "Upload" command in the "File" menu is not selectable, you are probably not inside a directory. To correct this, click on a directory to open it. Once inside, the "Upload" command should become active.
• 3. A dialog box will appear so that you can select the file on your computer or network that you want to upload to the FTP server.
• Once uploaded, your file will appear with the other FTP files.

How to transfer multiple files at one time:

• You will need to configure your FTP program for a data transfer session with the project FTP server using this information:
  Profile Name: chashsells
  Host: clients.chashsells.com
  Host Type: Automatic Detect
  User ID/Login: username provided
  Password: password provided
  
• Once you have created a profile for the Chas. H. Sells web site, you can select the profile and connect to Sells' FTP server.  Follow the instructions that came with your FTP program to transfer files between your computer and the project server.
• If your company uses a firewall, contact your computer administrator to find out how to configure your FTP software to properly get through the firewall.
